Restoration funding check presentation for the artwork "Le Rêve d'Icare."

Remise de cheque

Yesterday, we celebrated the handing over of a restoration funding check for the artwork titled "Le Rêve d'Icare" created by Jean-Pierre Derrien at the Nouméa-La Tontouta International Airport. This remarkable painting won the prestigious "Le Plus Grand Musée de France" competition in the Overseas Pacific Ocean region, thanks to the enthusiastic online participation of all voters.

Le Rêve d'Icare" has been a cherished piece displayed in the former departure lounge of the airport for more than 35 years. Since the completion of the extension works in 2013, this impressive 27-square-meter mural has been patiently awaiting restoration within our terminal.

As an organization dedicated to promoting local heritage, we actively participated in the competition organized by the Foundation for the Safeguarding of French Art. We are thrilled to announce that we emerged as the winners in the Overseas Pacific Ocean region with an overwhelming 845 public votes on the competition's website. Our success has been recognized with a generous donation of 960,000 CFP francs (8,000 euros) from Allianz France. This invaluable contribution will ensure the restoration of this extraordinary artwork, allowing us to present it to the public once again by December.

As the proud managers of the Nouméa-La Tontouta airport, we are committed to preserving and showcasing our local heritage. We are delighted to have the opportunity to share this iconic artwork, which has captivated audiences for decades in the departure lounge. Stay tuned for updates on the restoration progress and get ready to experience the enchanting beauty of "Le Rêve d'Icare" in the near future.
